The Foundation for Jewish Cultural Heritage in Italy (FBCEI) for the European Day of Jewish Culture 2024 with the theme Family, and as the lead city Turin presents the Video (italian language) “Isacco Artom, from the Jewish Family to the Italian Family. A history of the Risorgimento’.

The Artom Family Fund, present in the National Library of Italian Judaism “Tullia Zevi” based in Rome entrusted by UCEI to the management of FBCEI allowed to read the topic chosen by the AEPJ for the 25th anniversary of the event in a particular perspective through the story, the story of Isaac Artom. Judaism, starting from the Torah – the Pentateuch – is told through a story with the aim of transmitting and communicating it by narrating “so that you may tell it to the ears of your son and your son’s son” (Exodus 10.2)”.

The apparently monologue video intends to stimulate a two-way communication between the narrator and the listener, a dialogue that is at the heart of Judaism. It is an invitation to reflect on the plurality of family types that also includes the participation of the ‘Jewish family’ in the Risorgimento construction of the larger ‘family of irredentist and independent Italy’ in the realisation of which, with their own sacrifice and ideas, Italian Jews participated fully.
